WATCH: CCLA and Lawyer Discuss Their Legal Win Against Emergencies Act Ruling

13

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association and one of the organizations lawyers address their legal victory, following a Federal Judge's determination yesterday that the use of the Emergencies Act to disperse protestors was "unreasonable" and infringed upon citizen’s rights.

The CCLA's lawyer, Ewa Krajewska, begins by explaining how the federal court arrived at its conclusion in its ruling and says that "the decision to invoke the Emergencies Act did not meet the legal threshold set out in the legislation, that it was not a national emergency, and that the situation did not rise to the level of a serious threat to the security of Canada."

Noa Mendelsohn Aviv, executive director of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, says their legal team will defend against the government's planned appeal of the ruling and will "fight them tooth and nail."
