WATCH: Canada's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Chrystia Freeland, announces another $99 million "top-up" for renters through the Canada Housing Benefit

Freeland says that "by 2027-2028, this benefit will have helped make rent more affordable for over 300,000 low-income households.”

The last Canada Housing Benefit payment made to eligible recipients last year was $500.

Freeland made no mention of when eligible Canadians will be able to apply for the top-up or how much it will be.
