Children don't come up with these ideas on their own. Someone plants the seed, and that's who needs to be removed from any contact with children, whether in schools or any other youth oriented organization.

Children often have questions they don't want to ask their parents. That's when their teacher should refer them to the school nurse or councillor, both of whom should be highly vetted professionals with no connection to any advocacy or special interest groups. No one else in the child's environment should be acting in those roles because they simply aren't qualified to do so, and if they do act out of turn, it should be cause for dismissal.

<edit>

Consider that in the course of a school year your child might have as many as seven different teachers, depending on the subjects. How are you supposed to keep track of all that? Better that authority is vested in one person with actual qualifications than several people who only think they know what they're doing and can cause more harm than good.

As a practical approach to the above, schools should conduct special sessions for parents at the start of the school year where they get to meet the school nurse and councillor and ask them questions about their role and what they can expect from them if their child seeks their help. There should be no lingering doubts when you leave that session - parents should be reassured that their children are in good professional hands, and that if something comes up that requires their attention, they'll be notified immediately.

Another thought that occurs to me. Parent are often all over the map when it comes to concerns about their children. Much better if they can organize around a set of core principles such as the ones I just stated, the first being to remove ALL authority from teachers for handling anything that's outside the realm of their specific subject. This should be part of the employment contract and backed up by legislation. Single issue focus is far more effective than complaining about specific issues at parent-teacher meetings. This should also be the focus of any approach to the education authorities in your jurisdiction, and any elected members who hold that portfolio. Let the people involved know that you're a unified front with specific demands. That's a lot harder to ignore than just a few angry parents with no idea who to turn to to effect change.

Many of soy’s health benefits have been linked to isoflavones—plant compounds that mimic estrogen. But animal studies suggest that eating large amounts of those estrogenic compounds might reduce fertility in women, trigger premature puberty and disrupt development of fetuses and children.

Although most studies looking at the hormone-disrupting properties of genistein, the main isoflavone in soy, have been conducted in rodents, many scientists believe the findings may be relevant to humans as well.

“We know that too much genistein is not a good thing for a developing mouse; it may not be a good thing for a developing child,” said Retha Newbold, a developmental biologist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. More definitive answers, she said, may lay ahead in future long-term human studies.
