School enrolment numbers for Ontario students are down significantly for a second year in a row, homeschooling has doubled across Canada
From 2016 to 2020, both the Ontario public and Roman Catholic schools experienced consistent year-over-year growth in student enrolment.
However, recent data collected from schools across the province indicates a decline in student enrolment numbers for the second consecutive year.
In the 2019/2020 school year, the combined enrolment of public and Roman Catholic schools was 2,056,055 students. This figure dropped to 2,025,258 students in the 2020/2021 school year, representing a decrease of 30,797 students.
The following year, in the 2021/2022 school year, the number of registered students increased slightly to 2,028,685, but still reflected a decrease of 27,370 students compared to the 2019/2020 school year.
According to Statistics Canada, homeschooling rates across the country have doubled.
The results from the 2020/2021 Elementary-Secondary Education Survey reveal that "In Canada, there were 83,784 students enrolled in homeschool in 2020/2021 compared with 40,608 in the previous academic year, representing an increase of 106.3%."
My wife and I have a 4 year old daughter and has never seen the inside of an education indoctrination building. Nor will she ever. This movement has exploded over the last few years and our rural community is no exception.
Two years ago my wife and I started a small school/ learning pod on our property. We bought a large Amish shed which I insulated, finished and installed a wood stove. I purchased a small solar package and it is fully off grid. 80-90% of the learning is outdoor. Our kids learn how to garden, forage and animal husbandry along with the 3 R’s. My wife was an educator for the TDSB before we decided to bail from the city, she’s had seen exactly this was headed and we both knew in our hearts that there had to be a better way. Our students thrive and we’ve been blessed to have a close community of likeminded families grow up around us. We’re expanding in September and will be bringing on another educator who has seen the writing on the wall. Parents are seeing what is happening in the schools, and want none of it around their children. Thank God.
Go woke, go broke applied to public education too.
