Watch: Liberal MP and House Speaker Anthony Rota issued a brief apology for allowing a veteran with the Nazi regime into the House of Commons, where he received a standing ovation

7

Liberal MP and House Speaker Anthony Rota issued a brief apology this morning and said he takes full responsibility for allowing 98-year-old World War II Nazi veteran Yaroslav Hunka into the House of Commons last Friday, who received a standing ovation.

This embarrassing moment in Canadian history occurred last Friday, following Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's visit to Canada and his speech in the House of Commons. Afterward, House Speaker Anthony Rota addressed the room and pointed to a guest he had invited, who turned out to be a 98-year-old World War II veteran, Yaroslav Hunka. The 98-year-old received a standing ovation from everyone in the room. However, shortly thereafter, it was discovered that Hunka had actually been a WWII Nazi veteran.
