Two of the Coutts Four take plea deal, plead guilty to lesser charges, sentenced to time served, and are set to be released today.
Two of the Coutts Four, Christopher Lysak and Jerry Morin, initially faced charges of conspiracy to commit murder against RCMP officers during the Coutts Alberta blockade in February 2022.
According to the RCMP, a total of 14 people were arrested following a raid on three trailers on a property near the Coutts Alberta border blockade. Police reported they seized 13 long guns, handguns, a machete, a large quantity of ammunition, and body armor. Court hearings revealed that wiretaps were utilized prior to the raid, arrests, and charges.
Among the 14 individuals arrested, four men, recognized as the Coutts Four—Chris Carbert, Anthony Olienick, Jerry Morin, and Christopher Lysak—have been in custody for well over 700 days. The prolonged detention has led to criticism of the justice system, as these individuals have experienced significant delays in bail hearings or a prompt resolution.
Today, both men, Christopher Lysak and Jerry Morin, took a plea deal. Lysak pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of possession of a loaded restricted firearm in an unauthorized place, while Morin pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic firearms. The two men are scheduled to be released today after receiving a sentence of time served.
However, the other two Coutts men, Chris Carbert and Anthony Olienick, remain in custody on allegations that they conspired to murder RCMP officers. Their trials are set to take place later this year.
That is plain BS. Let them post bail an be out. RCMP set them up. Federal govt had a big hand in this too! No wonder Canadians don’t trust Trudeau: WEF’s plan. I don’t trust the corrupt RCMP nor the corrupt liberals 👎👎
Initially I did not know about guilt or innocence BUT after watching Jason Lavigne AND Donald Best I began to see that, for the most part , this whole situation was complete and utter cod swallop. Canadians have lost much trust in our government, our police force and our justice system, this is truly a sad state of affairs. I am glad these two are finally out it should have happened 650 days ago!
