Parents against vaccinating their children jumps from 4% in 2019 to 17% in 2024, a new Canadian survey shows
On February 28, 2024, the Angus Reid Institute published a new survey revealing a significant increase in Canadian parents opposing the vaccination of their children, rising from 4% in 2019 to 17% in 2024.
Highlighting additional insights, the survey indicates that 29% of parents express skepticism about the science of vaccines, with one-in-three 34% expressing worry about the risk of significant side effects.
The survey also indicates a decline in the percentage of Canadian parents who believe vaccinations should be mandatory for children, dropping from 70% in 2019 to 55% in 2024.
Across all age groups combined, the survey found that the percentage of people who believe vaccines are 'not at all' or 'not very' effective increased from 8% in 2019 to 14% in 2024.
The survey says, "there appears to be growing skepticism about vaccine efficacy among Canadians in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic – especially among parents with children under 18."
