Mother with 7 young children being refused desperately needed kidney transplant over her COVID-19 vaccine status.
A 41-year-old Georgia woman in desperate need of a kidney transplant to stay alive has been refused a religious or medical accommodation by Emory Healthcare, Inc. because she will not take the COVID-19 vaccine.
Liberty Counsel, a nonprofit legal organization, sent a demand letter to Emory Healthcare on her behalf. The woman, a mother of seven who homeschools her children, was referred to the Emory transplant center by her nephrologist and deemed an acceptable candidate for transplant without the COVID-19 shot after her consultation with a nurse practitioner from Emory.
The evaluation process was halted when a social worker informed her that if she did not intend to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, they could not proceed further, despite a positive initial assessment by a nurse practitioner and her suitability as a candidate for the transplant.
According to Liberty Counsel the woman had contracted COVID-19 before, and her recent antibody test reveals that her immunity is higher than that of most individuals who have received a two-dose series of Pfizer and those who are more than 90 days post-vaccination.
