Italian prosecutors officially launch investigation into doctors and medical staff over death of 18-year-old from the COVID-19 vaccine

Five doctors and medical staff have officially been placed under investigation, according to Italian prosecutors, after an 18-year-old girl died following her COVID jab in June 2021.

Camilla Canepa was an 18-year-old student from Sestri Levante, Italy. She received her AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on May 25, 2021, at a vaccination clinic and fell ill shortly after, on June 3, 2021. She was then taken to Lavagna Hospital, where she was diagnosed with thrombocytopenia and photosensitivity.

Canepa was released from the hospital but returned on June 5, 2021, and was diagnosed with cavernous sinus thrombosis, a type of blood clot in the brain. She was then moved to San Martino Polyclinic for surgery but tragically passed away on June 10, 2021.

In March 2021, just three months before Canepa’s death, Italy had suspended the AstraZeneca vaccine due to concerns about blood clotting problems, especially in young people.

A month later, the European drug regulator recommended that the AstraZeneca vaccine be given to those 60 years of age or older but stated that the benefits of the vaccine outweighed the risks, and they continued administering AstraZeneca to avoid wasting doses.

Canepa’s autopsy revealed that she "had no previous pathology and had not taken any medication," and the cause of death from thrombosis was "reasonably attributed to an adverse effect from the administration of the COVID vaccine."

After Canepa’s death, Italy halted the AstraZeneca vaccine administration for anyone under 60 years of age.

The next step in the prosecution's investigation is to interview the doctors and medical staff involved.
