Fauci Lied: Unredacted Email Reveals Fauci's Early Knowledge of Risky Gain-of-Function Research in China
Yesterday, the United States Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic released an unredacted email dated February 1, 2020, from Dr. Anthony Fauci to other colleagues regarding a phone conversation he and Dr. Francis Collins had with what Fauci referred to as “several highly credible scientists,” including some with “expertise in evolutionary biology.”
Fauci is relaying what transpired during the phone call to his colleagues in the email.
In the email, Fauci discusses the concerns the scientists had about China, saying:
"They were concerned about the fact that, upon viewing the sequences of several isolates of the nCoV, there were mutations in the virus that would be most unusual to have evolved naturally in bats, and that there was a suspicion that this mutation was intentionally inserted. The suspicion was heightened by the fact that scientists at Wuhan University are known to have been working on gain-of-function experiments to determine the molecular mechanisms associated with bat viruses adapting to human infection, and the outbreak originated in Wuhan."
Fauci has consistently maintained that there was never any gain-of-function research happening in China.
In an October 24, 2021, interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Fauci said,
“The framework under which we have guidance about the conduct of research that we fund, the funding at the Wuhan Institute was to be able to determine what is out there in the environment, in bat viruses in China. And the research was very strictly under what we call a framework of oversight of the type of research. And under those conditions which we have explained very, very clearly, does not constitute research of gain of function of concern.”

There is now no question that Fauci knew from the very beginning, back in February 2020, that gain-of-function research was taking place in China, and yet he continues to lie about it.
