Ethics Commissioner finds no evidence in CBC's claim that Alberta Premier Danielle Smith spoke to Crown Prosecutors about COVID-related prosecutions.
In a recent report by the Ethics Commissioner, Hon. Marguerite Trussler, K.C., findings were presented regarding allegations involving Premier Danielle Smith. One of the key allegations examined was whether someone from the Premier's office had sent an email regarding Covid-related prosecutions to a Crown Prosecutor and if the Premier had spoken to any Crown Prosecutor.
After conducting a thorough investigation, the Ethics Commissioner found no evidence to support the existence of such an email or any communication between the Premier's office and a Crown Prosecutor regarding the cases. The CBC, which initially reported on this allegation, did not have access to the alleged emails or disclose their source.
Furthermore, all Crown Prosecutors who were handling Covid-related files confirmed that they had not received any email from the Premier’s office. Similarly, the Premier's staff stated that they had not sent such an email. Based on the available evidence, the Ethics Commissioner concluded that no Crown Prosecutor was directly emailed about any of the cases, indicating no interference with the independence of the Prosecutors at this level.
Ezra Levant has come out publicly claiming it is Tyler Shandro who called CBC and is trying to embarrass Smith and ensure she loses. I wouldn't put it past him.
