Dr. Matt Strauss, a pro-vaccine physician with anti-mandate and lockdown views, is seeking the Conservative Party of Canada nomination for the Kitchener South–Hespeler riding.
Dr. Strauss is a physician who served as the acting medical officer of health for Haldimand-Norfolk during part of the pandemic from 2021 to 2023.
According to his campaign website, Strauss graduated from the University of Waterloo and proceeded to attend medical school at Western University. Subsequently, he pursued specialized training in internal medicine at McGill University. Upon returning to Western, Dr. Strauss completed additional training as a subspecialist in Critical Care Medicine.
His bio also mentions that he practiced at Grand River and Guelph General Hospitals, where he served as Chief of the ICU. Additionally, Dr. Strauss joined the faculty at McMaster University, teaching students at their Waterloo Regional Campus for many years.
Matt has been a vocal advocate against mandates and lockdowns, expressing his views on social media and participating in public events, including rallies held across the province during the pandemic. Additionally, Strauss has explicitly stated on his X social media account that he is “pro-vaccine” and holds the opinion that “Ivermectin doesn't work.”
Dr. Strauss is slated for a two-hour scientific discussion in Kitchener, Ontario, on October 6, 2023, between 7 and 9 PM with Dr. Byram Bridle, an Associate Professor of Viral Immunology in the Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph. Dr. Bridle is known for his outspoken stance against Covid-19 vaccines and is a proponent of early treatments for the virus.
