Canadian federal government denies us access to information for raw COVID-19 data already publicly provided on their website
The Canadian Independent filed an access to information request with the Public Health Agency of Canada, seeking all raw data that provinces and territories reported to the federal government regarding age, vaccine status, hospitalizations, and deaths related to COVID-19. We were not seeking any identifying or personal information.
The response we received from the record holders was a DVD with all raw data redacted.
The purpose of the access to information request was to verify if the government's reporting on The Public Health Agency of Canada's website was accurate. All requested data is already posted on their website.
The graphs and spreadsheets provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada on their website consistently showed that the unvaccinated were more likely to contribute to cases, hospitalizations, and deaths from COVID-19 over the years.
The Canadian Independent was essentially asking the Public Health Agency of Canada to substantiate the data reported on their website by providing the raw data from provinces and territories.
The record holders for the Public Health Agency of Canada have continuously delayed this request, filed over a year ago. They repeatedly sought clarification, requested more time, or claimed they needed to conduct numerous consultations to provide the records.
The Canadian Independent will be filing an appeal.
