Dr. Anthony Fauci is appearing this morning before Senator Rand Paul’s Senate committee as part of an investigation into the U.S. government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, including questions about the origins of the virus, NIH funding of research connected to Wuhan, and Fauci’s past testimony to Congress.
The hearing also follows the release of Fauci’s pandemic era diary entries by Sen. Paul, which Republicans say raise questions about Fauci’s public statements and decision making during the pandemic.
Dr. Anthony Fauci’s lawyer, David Schertler, was removed from the Senate hearing after Senator Rand Paul said the attorney was disrupting the proceedings and had violated the committee’s instructions about where he could sit and how he could participate. Paul said the lawyer was not permitted to sit at the witness table or intervene during the questioning, and ordered Capitol Police to escort him out.
