Australia's largest-ever myocarditis study found 54.8% of patients had ongoing symptoms, significantly abnormal cases at six-month follow-up after Covid-19 vaccination

A new study, the largest of its kind, focused on myocarditis reports post-COVID-19 vaccination, tracked by Surveillance of Adverse Events Following Vaccination in the Community, the statewide vaccine safety service for Victoria, Australia. The study, conducted between February 22, 2021, and September 30, 2022, involved following up confirmed myocarditis cases through surveys at 1, 3, and 6 months post-symptom onset.

The study found that “54.8 % of survey reports at 6 months, reporting ongoing symptoms.” Notably, females consistently showed a higher likelihood of enduring persistent symptoms. By the 6-month mark, 51.9% of male respondents reported symptom resolution, while 22.6% of female patients still experienced ongoing symptoms. Females were also more inclined to continue medication usage and maintain ongoing exercise restrictions. In contrast, males exhibited higher initial peak troponin results and abnormalities in the initial cardiac imaging investigations.

The study's conclusion stated that a "significant proportion of cases continue to experience clinical symptoms and have abnormal clinical findings at 6-months after presentation."
